While our afternoon with David was 7 months ago, we relive our adventures with him often!

We met with him on our second day in Edinburgh so we benefitted from his amazing wealth of knowledge about his city for our next 5 days there. While he took us to well known places, we ventured to less highlighted spots where we learned quite a few photography tricks.

While we had a Sony RX100VIII, we primarily used our iPhones. I particularly enjoyed learning to take photos of ceilings with the "trick" that David shared with us. You will see the ceilings of the Thistle Chapel, National Bank of Scotland, and Stirling Castle (chapel) that I've attached.

David's suggestions of restaurants and other places to visit and explore filled our remaining days in Edinburgh. We plan to return this spring!

I sincerely recommend this tour with David. As a guide, he was terrifically enthusiastic, highly knowledgeable about both photography and the city, and, above all, genuinely kind.

He did not just give pointers on how to better work our camera phones, he took us to a million hidden gems all over the city that afforded us amazing shots, all of which we never would have discovered without him, even after scouring countless websites and guide books ourselves to learn more about the city ourselves.

His pace was brisk, which allowed us to cover a lot of ground and many sites, but he was always mindful of us when we needed a pause to take a picture, and he was always conscientious of my elderly father who joined us at a slower pace. And when we had to cut our tour slightly short, David very generously gave us another hour of his time the following day, there was just that much to cover and he was just that excited to share it.

A really lovely tour with David who was a font of knowledge about Edinburgh and super enthusiastic about his city.

The weather wasn't great for our tour however this didn't dampen either Davids or our spirits and if anything the weather added to the atmosphere of the places that we visited, being hidden gardens, old graveyards or the top of Calton Hill.

David was an excellent teacher giving helpful photographic advice as well as top tips for places to go things to see in Edinburgh.

The trip was scheduled to last 2 hours but we ended up spending almost 3 hours which flew by quickly. David wasn't rushed and didn't rush us either giving us plenty of time to stop, take photos or simply admire the views.

I would definitely recommend one of David's tours in the future and wouldn't hesitate booking another one myself the next time that we visit Edinburgh.

This is the first review I have ever left!

We were visiting my husband's 92 year old mum in Edinburgh for 10 days and we had some free time. This tour with David was one of the highlights of our visit.

Even though I showed up with an iPhone camera, David taught me many valuable lessons (which I won't share so you can learn for yourself).

David is passionate about teaching you to be a better photographer, which I appreciated and it made my holiday photographs so much better for the rest of our travels.

The bonus was that my husband who grew up in Edinburgh and could care less about photography was intrigued the entire time with David's knowledge and passion for Edinburgh history.

We can't wait until our next visit to go to the sites that David recommended and my husband never knew about.

I shoot a digital SLR but my husband used his iPhone and we both got such great shots!

Locations we didn’t know about or never would have approached that are absolute keepers (public and respectfully approached spots).

My personal recommendation would be to do this tour early in your stay to get oriented, which will also allow for a revisit if you want additional pics or different lighting.

This is my first tripadvisor recommendation ever. For two reasons: either a tour was not worth the recommendation or had already a plenty of - but not Davids (and that´s such a pity).

The tour I had with him was outstanding (I can not imagine, any other vendor that provides you such a personal tailor-made tour). He showed me places I would have never discovered with a guidebook, but also visited some of the tourists hotspots.

David is such a passionate photograph, you really feel he loves his work and the tours. With less effort (e.g. only changing the angle a little) the pictures I shot with David improved a lot compared to those I have taken. They are the favorite ones of my scotland holiday - I can´t wait to show them to my friends and family.

I had never held a DSLR in my hand. Honest! Definitely, a DSLR Novice here. But not anymore!

Before booking the tour, I asked David to cover his recommendations on the best DSLR for me to purchase and the key things I need to know about taking great photographs. He did this and so much more. I now know which camera to buy – I even got to test-drive it on David’s tour – and it’s much less expensive than I had anticipated.

He gave me lots of incredibly helpful tips on how to take great photos. There was very clear advice on composition, the exposure triangle, camera modes, metering and more. David’s handouts are incredibly easy to understand, they were absolutely perfect for me.

He offers follow-up support too via email or over a cup of coffee. Almost all tours in Edinburgh are about sightseeing and the City’s amazing architecture. But they are definitely not about taking good photos.

What makes this unique is that it is all about helping us take great photos. This is David’s niche. Highly recommended.

I was given an old DSLR this year by a friend who never used it. I found myself confused about how to get the right exposure using manual mode. I took the tour with David and he really helped me understand the camera and techniques for shooting subjects in low-light and back-light.
